Here at The G Spot I will share current trends with you from time to time. Participating in trends can be a lot of fun however I feel that it is important to have your own “signature look.” To me, a signature look consists of the items that you would reach for in your closet and wear everyday if you could get away with it. It’s the look that you feel the most comfortable and true to yourself in. So, while I am all for jumping on the “trendy” bandwagon I will quickly pass on a trend if it’s something that doesn’t feel true to me or I don’t feel comfortable in it.
When I was high school l had a somewhat tomboyish look. I loved sneakers and clothes that were cute but comfortable. However, when I showed up on the campus of UNC-Chapel Hill rocking a pair of fresh Air Force One’s, loose fit jeans, and a t-shirt, I quickly realized that not very many girls dressed like me. Most of the girls I encountered on campus wore tight jeans and heels. Remember Parasuco jeans and Durango boots? Lol I felt like I stood out and looked incredibly young compared to everyone else. At the time the last thing I wanted to do was stand out for being different so I conformed. I swapped the loose jeans for tight jeans. I ditched the sneakers and began rocking heels. I kept this up for many, many years.
About four years ago I bought a pair of sneakers for the first time in years. I paired the sneakers with a pair of skinny jeans, a statement t-shirt, and baseball hat. I looked in the mirror and was like “yasssssss, this is me!” I felt comfortable and cute. I didn’t care that I looked different from everyone else. In fact I embraced it. At first people didn’t know how to take this change. They thought I was depressed or had given up on putting effort into my appearance because the change was kind of drastic & seemed to have happened overnight. Eventually everyone got on board and they now know that if I can get away with it I will more than likely be rocking some sneakers. Also, I have deemed myself the Queen of Effortlessly Chic.
Here on this blog, you will absolutely see me in more than just sneakers, jeans, and t-shirts. I pride myself on being versatile. I still own way too many pairs of heels and dresses and will absolutely rock those looks too. However, my signature look, the look that is “me” and that I feel the most comfortable in is a pair of sneakers and a statement t-shirt. It can be a lot of fun to step outside of the box from time to time and try new things but always remain true to you.
Do you have a signature look? If so, what is it?
